Our Team

Taylor curry

Owner, Designer, Random Plant Adopter

Taylor imagines ways for people to spend time at Waybird, designing its gathering spaces and stewarding its acres. She’s the one sending the newsletter, updating the website, and doing most of the visual design. She’s worn just about every hat from lawn mower to floor refinisher, but is finally delegating and watching things improve exponentially as a result! She is no longer allowed to adopt plants without a pre-dug hole for them to immediately be planted in.

Chase Curry

Owner, Garden Chef

Chase’s vision for Waybird is often viewed through the lenses of food and fun. He decides what we grow based on what meals we intend to serve, and how we share the fruits of our labor with others. He sees things along a timeline in order of priority, keeping himself & everyone sane by pacing us and encouraging a healthy amount of play and rest. He also mans the wood fire oven for pizza events and does endless other random projects like building, cleaning, planting and planning.

Carrie McAfee

Director of Operations & Events, The Organized One, Systems Savant

Carrie keeps our operations running & organized and helps turn our ideas into actionable steps. She says things like “don’t just eyeball it, Taylor” and brings us back to center by reminding us of our mission. She has a background in business/restaurant management and grew up barefoot gardening with her dad, Paul. In addition to managing all of our events, Carrie also got married at Waybird in 2024, so she has first-hand experience being the coordinator and the host. She’s the one you talk to when you book an event at Waybird, gives people tours of our space and helps ensure our events are magical & seamless!

Paul Morgan

Groundskeeper, Irrigation & Water Wizard, Carpenter, etc.

Paul is so many things. He is the keeper of all plants & structures outside of the vegetable garden, including the forest. He kinda seems like he might live in a tree in the forest, actually. He ensures the grasses and landscape plants are tended to, trees are pruned, pathways are clear. Paul built the rainwater reclamation & irrigation system along with most of the other additions (the creek, dock, outhouse, etc.), and repairs and maintains the buildings. Paul listens to our wild ideas, adds his wisdom & creativity, brings the ideas to life and helps us keep everything alive.

Kate craig

Garden Whisperer, Chicken Wrangler, Tool-Fixer

Kate is our newest team member. She plants, tends, waters and weeds the vegetable garden and other edible plantings around Waybird. Her background in healing arts has led to a discovery that talking to plants is an effective means to figuring out what they need, and our fall veggies are more abundant than ever as a result! Kate also makes sure the chickens & duck are fed, watered, and full of treats and positive affirmations. She is a metalsmith, fixing tools and tinkering with other projects (like seed-saving and hulling black walnuts!) around Waybird.

Nana & Roo

Guardians, Thieves, Chief Cuddle Officers

Nana (the elder stateswoman) spent the first 10 years of her life as a typical house-dog, looking at Taylor and Chase like they were missing something. Now she just says, “I told you so.” She and her little sister, Roo, are Great Pyrenees mixes and take their jobs as property guardians very seriously. That means snoozing, sniffing and laying in the creek, interrupted by the occasional bark sesh when they see/smell/hear something nearby. Roo likes to keep things spicy by stealing people’s gloves, tools, etc. and then doing zoomie laps around like a lunatic.
